At the time, my fiancé (now husband) and I were paying for our wedding ourselves, all while building our first home. So naturally, I decided to skip the planner and save money. I thought, “I’m organized. I’ve got vision. How hard could this really be?”

My Honest Advice: Plan All You Want… But Pass the Baton

Look, I fully support all my fellow Type A, organized couples. I see you with your color-coded spreadsheets and detailed timelines — it’s amazing. But here’s the thing: even the best-laid plans need someone else to run the show when the day arrives.

If I could do it again, I would have hired a month-of coordinator at the very least. Someone to take my plans, troubleshoot the hiccups, and let me focus on actually enjoying the moment.

My husband and I spent a lot of money on the biggest party we’ve ever thrown. Looking back, I realized we didn’t protect that investment. A professional planner? That’s the insurance you need to guarantee your time, money, and vision pay off — and that your memories are filled with joy, not stress.
